Mifeprex (Mifepristone) Birth Control Pill is a more private option for abortion (i.e. to end an unintended pregnancy safely). Mifeprex is a hormonal preparation that blocks a hormone, progesterone necessary for your pregnancy. Early pregnancy denotes 7 weeks (49 days) or less from the duration when your last menstrual period began. The drug is not suitable for ending later pregnancies. Mifeprex contains Generic Mifepristone as active therapeutic medicine in it.

Why choose Mifeprex?

  • Convenient to take as it is available in an easy-to-take pill form.

  • Proven results

  • It avoids complex procedures of anaesthesia and incision (surgery).

What is birth control?

Contraception or Birth control is the technique of preventing undesirable and early pregnancies. It offers women the freedom to enjoy sexual intimation without worry about pregnancy. Birth control pills or Oral contraceptives are hormonal pills that may contain either progestin (progesterone) alone or a combination of the hormones estrogen and progestin.

Active working of Mifeprex

Mifepristone blocks a natural hormone present in the body (progesterone) that is required for your pregnancy to continue. The drug primarily works by stopping ovulation i.e. the process by which egg is released from ovary. The drug also causes thinning of the endometrium layer and hardening the cervical mucus, thereby hindering the entry of sperm in the uterus.

Dosing regimen

  • You are required to take 3 tablets of Mifeprex 200 mg i.e. 600 mg collectively at the same time on Day 1.

  • Take 2 tablets of Misoprostol at the same time (400 mcg) “if you are still pregnant” on Day 3. It is important to note that Misoprostol is taken i.e. if you are still pregnant.

  • Follow-up visit is very important at Day 14 to confirm that your pregnancy has completely ended.

Risks and Side Effects

Bleeding and cramps commonly occur with this treatment. Other common undesirable side effects of Mifeprex may include dizziness, tiredness, headache, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, back pain and pain in the pelvic area. These unwanted effects decrease after third day and typically disappears by Day 14.

Severe side effects of Mifeprex may include anxiety, severe headache, anaemia, severe vaginal bleeding, fever, stomach upset, and lack of sleep.

Drug - Drug Interactions

Some drugs that may interact with Mifeprex and change the activity of Mifeprex may include:

  • NSAIDs i.e. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for example, Aspirin and Ibuprofen

  • Anticonvulsant medicines such as Phenobarbital, Carbamazepine or Phenytoin

  • Antibiotics such as Dexamethasone, Erythromycin, Rifamycin or Rifabutin

  • Long-term corticosteroids (let's say, Methylprednisolone, Dexamethasone or Prednisone)

  • Antiplatelet drugs for instance Clopidogrel or Warfarin

  • Azole antifungal drugs for example Ketoconazole or Itraconazole

  • Natural herbal extracts such as St. John's Wort
